A 13-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted from Louisiana was found safe in North Texas overnight and the suspect was taken into custody, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the 13-year-old was reported missing on May 7 from the 6200 block of Bain Boulevard in Keithville, Louisiana, and was believed to be with an 18-year-old suspect, identified as Daniel Vasquez Mejia.

Vasquez Mejia drives a 2008 white Chevrolet Tahoe with Texas license plates, which was reportedly seen in the area at the time of the 13-year-old’s disappearance, authorities said.
During the investigation, Louisiana detectives learned the vehicle may be headed back to Texas on Thursday evening and requested an AMBER Alert through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
After the AMBER Alert was issued, investigators received tips about the suspect vehicle in Allen, Texas, speaking with a man who said he drove the suspect to a home where the teen was taken in the Copeville area.
That man provided Allen Police with the address, and the missing teen and suspect were both found.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office said Vasquez Mejia was arrested by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of harboring a runaway. The sheriff’s office has also obtained a warrant for simple kidnapping under Louisiana law.
The teen is now in the custody of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, which is working to arrange her return to her family.
The investigation is ongoing. Because the offense crossed state lines, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified, and more charges may be brought against Vasquez Mejia.
