3 jr docs suspended after clash at AMU’s med college

Agra: Three junior doctors of Aligarh Muslim University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) were suspended on charges of “indiscipline” and “misconduct” under the AMU Students’ Conduct and Discipline Rules after a clash between patient attendants and doctors on Tuesday night triggered protests on the campus.Authorities on Thursday said they had barred Dr Mohammad Talha Khurshid, Dr Shahvez, and Dr Aqeel Hussain from entering the university and medical college premises until further notice. University authorities said an inquiry into the incident was underway. AMU Proctor Mohammad Naved Khan said, “The three doctors have been suspended pending investigation.”According to officials, suspension letters were issued to the doctors concerned. The letter, accessed by TOI, stated: “On the night of May 5 at JNMC’s emergency trauma centre, certain junior doctors allegedly assaulted patient attendants, misbehaved with police and members of the proctorial team, and created chaos inside the CMO room.”The order further stated: “Despite repeated warnings, the accused doctors allegedly led an unlawful assembly, damaged property, obstructed officials from performing their duties, and threatened police personnel.”The action followed an FIR lodged at Civil Lines police station on the complaint of Afazal Ahmed, an attendant of a patient. The three doctors were booked under multiple sections of the BNS, including Section 109 (attempt to murder).Following the FIR, several junior doctors staged a dharna on the JNMC campus, demanding withdrawal of the cases against the doctors and revocation of the suspensions. Resident Doctors’ Association vice-president Akhatar Ali alleged that the doctors were also assaulted during the incident. “Our doctors were attacked too. We submitted a complaint seeking action against the attendants involved, but no case has been registered so far,” he said.
