NEW DELHI: Akhil Gogoi of the Raijor Dal emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 86521 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Kushal Dowari by a decisive margin of 17272 votes.BJP’s Kushal Dowari was in contest with Rajjor Dal’s Akhil Gogoi, which is in alliance with Congress, for the constituency of Sibsagar in the 2026 assembly elections.There were a total of 209976 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Sibsagar Assembly constituency, of whom 103484 were male, 106491 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.Sibsagar Assembly constituency is a general (unreserved) seat located in Sivasagar district of Assam. It is one of the 10 Assembly segments under the Jorhat Parliamentary constituency.In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,52,087 registered voters, with 1,24,219 valid votes cast. Independent candidate Akhil Gogoi won the seat with 57,219 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Surabhi Rajkonwari finished second with 45,344 votes, losing by a margin of 11,875 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, Sibsagar had 1,38,397 electors, with 1,13,331 valid votes recorded. Congress candidate Pranab Kumar Gogoi won the seat with 48,584 votes, defeating BJP candidate Surabhi Rajkonwar, who secured 48,042 votes. The victory margin was 542 votes.
