An Indian-origin biotechnology engineer has admitted committing an act outraging public decency after allegedly exposing himself during an Emirates flight from Dubai to the UK, according to Daily Mail.Britto Lorence, 27, appeared before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court over the incident, which took place on a long-haul flight travelling from Dubai to Newcastle in June last year.According to prosecutors, Lorence was seated next to a woman and her young son when the incident occurred shortly after take-off.Prosecutor Brian Payne told the court the woman initially became concerned after noticing movement beneath a pillow placed over Lorence’s lap and feared he may have been hiding a weapon. The court heard she later realised Lorence was exposing himself and alerted cabin crew, who detained him during the flight. In a victim impact statement read before the court, the woman described herself as “deeply distressed” by the incident.“I tried to hold my emotions together to stop myself causing my son any further alarm,” she said. The woman, who is from Australia, had initially been expected to give evidence through a video link before Lorence admitted the offence.Payne told the court Lorence had denied deliberately exposing himself during his police interview but later admitted he had been masturbating.Defence lawyer Andy O’Hanlon said Lorence had been asleep during the flight and woke up feeling uncomfortable before moving his private parts outside his underwear.Lorence, originally from Kerala, later moved to the UK to pursue a master’s degree in biotechnology and food science.Court documents stated he previously worked as a development technologist with Zaara Biotech LLC.District Judge Kate Meek adjourned the case for sentencing until June 2 and said all sentencing options remained open, including an immediate prison term or referral to Crown Court.
