Searches launched in Akhnoor and adjoining areas after arrest of Jaish terrorist

JAMMU: Security forces launched an extensive joint search operation along forward villages in Akhnoor and adjoining areas in J&K after BSF foiled an infiltration bid and arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist armed with an M-5 rifle and ammunition on Friday.Searches were also conducted in the nearby Phambla area of Reasi district in Jammu on Saturday.Official sources said although there were no reports of any kind of suspicious movements in the area, no chances were taken. The forces are on high alert and have asked residents of villages near the International Border and the Line of Control to immediately alert the authorities if any suspicious person is seen in their locality.On Friday, troops carried out a joint search operation “in Sanjawan village, depth area of Manihari, Marheen (Kathua)”, BSF’s Jammu spokesperson said in a post on X.The JeM terrorist, identified as Abdul Khalik of Rajouri district, was nabbed in the Pargwal area along the border.On Dec 11, the border guarding force and local police had carried out a joint search operation in “Mathura Chak village, the depth area of Chandwan, Hiranagar (Kathua)”, the BSF spokesperson had posted a day earlier.
