From Jamaica’s J-type diabetes to WHO's reversal: A long-ignored form of diabetes gets official recognition

​Type 5 diabetes has stepped out of the shadows after years of debate. The International Diabetes Federation gave it official status this year, recognizing a form tied to chronic malnutrition that affects up to 25 million people, mostly in Asia and Africa.​
