NEW DELHI: Police arrested two wildlife trafficking suspects and recovered 74 rare turtles in Mainpuri’s Dumila border area in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, while they were attempting to transport the animals to Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand.The suspects were intercepted during a police raid based on a tip-off near the Dumila border area, said additional superintendent of police, rural, Rahul Mithas.The accused, identified as Yanendra Gangwar and Arsh Pathania from Bareilly, were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in turtle trafficking.During police questioning, the suspects revealed they were transporting the turtles to supply local buyers in Uttarakhand.Police have seized the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt. The accused have been sent to jail after completing legal formalities.
