As the 2025–26 NBA season pushes deeper into the stretch run, few players have dominated the league’s nightly conversation quite like Luka Doncic.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has delivered another statistically overwhelming campaign, averaging 32.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, numbers that place him among the league’s most productive players and at the top of the scoring leaderboard.
Those performances have fueled a legitimate MVP narrative.
Doncic has spent much of the year hovering around the upper tier of the league’s MVP ladder, trailing only a few rivals such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander while still firmly in the conversation.
But on Tuesday, a development off the court abruptly shifted attention away from basketball.
According to documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Dončić’s longtime partner, Anamaria Goltes, has filed a petition seeking child support for the couple’s two minor children.
The filing introduces a personal storyline that could become a major subplot around one of the NBA’s most prominent stars as the season continues.
Per the report, Goltes’ legal filing requests child support and attorney fees but does not seek custody orders at this time.
The documents state that Goltes moved back to Slovenia in May of last year, and the couple’s children have been living with her there since.
That includes their youngest child, who was born in December 2025, with Doncic reportedly traveling to Slovenia for the birth.
The reason for the filing is not yet publicly known. In many cases, such petitions are filed to formally establish financial arrangements and legal protections, even when parents remain on amicable terms.
Attempts to obtain comment from either side have reportedly not yet produced a response.
Doncic and Goltes have been together for nearly a decade, making their relationship one of the longest-running partnerships involving an active NBA superstar.
The two began dating in 2016, back when Doncic was still emerging as a teenage prodigy in Europe.
Their relationship continued through his rapid rise in the NBA, including his years with the Dallas Mavericks and his eventual move to the Lakers in a blockbuster trade in February 2025.
In July 2023, Doncic proposed to Goltes, cementing their status as one of basketball’s most recognizable couples.
The couple welcomed their first child, Gabriela, in November 2023.
Two years later, they expanded their family again with the birth of Olivia in December 2025.
Timing is a major factor in why this development has quickly captured attention across the basketball world.
Doncic is currently the face of the Lakers franchise and arguably one of the three or four most influential players in the league.
He’s also in the middle of a season where his on-court production has once again placed him near the center of the MVP conversation.
Any off-court issue involving a player of that stature tends to ripple through media coverage, locker-room dynamics, and the broader narrative around the team.
