Iowa weather: Powerful winds move in Today through Friday morning
BACK TO YOU. A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT GAME THIS AFTERNOON. YES. AND HOPEFULLY EVERYONE IS FINE WATCHING INDOORS. AND THE TRASH CANS ARE OUT FROM THE CURB BECAUSE SEE YOU. YEAH. NOT A NOT A TIME TO LEAVE THEM OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT FOR THE PICKUP TOMORROW MORNING BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO GET WINDY AND THERE’S NOT REALLY A LEVEL ABOVE MISSING WHEN IT COMES TO GARBAGE CAN FORECAST. SO, YOU KNOW, USUALLY MAYBE CALL YOUR NEIGHBOR, BUT YOU MIGHT NEED TO CALL SPACE-X, TO RETRIEVE THE GARBAGE CAN FROM LATER ON TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING, THE WINDS ARE REALLY GOING TO BE PICKING UP, BRINGING IT BACK DOWN TO WHAT TO EXPECT THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY, 60 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS LATE TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW MORNING. THAT’S GOING TO BE EXPECTED AS THESE STRONG WINDS REALLY PICK UP THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY. BUT REALLY HAMMERING OVERNIGHT. THEN SNOW AND WIND IN THE FORECAST AS WE TALK ABOUT SUNDAY. BITTER COLD MOVES IN COME MONDAY AND WE’RE TALKING SUBZERO WIND CHILLS RETURNING AS WE GO INTO MONDAY MORNING. THE WIND SPEEDS NOW ARE NOT BAD. THEY ARE JUST FINE 5 TO 10MPH. AS WE TALK ABOUT THE TEMPERATURES INTO THE 20S, IT’S CHILLY. START A LITTLE BIT OF A CHILL IN THE AIR, BUT GOING INTO THE REST OF THE MORNING, YOU GOT TO INCREASE THOSE WIND SPEEDS. THE CHILL WILL STICK AROUND, BUT EVENTUALLY WE’RE GOING TO BE CLIMBING UP INTO THE 50S FOR THE AFTERNOON UNDER MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES. BUT GOING INTO THE AFTERNOON, YOU’LL BE EXPECTING 40 TO 50 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS. AND THAT’S EVEN GOING TO BRING IN SOME RAIN CHANCE OVERNIGHT. BUT REALLY GOING TO BE MAINLY HIGHLIGHTING THESE VERY STRONG WINDS, ESPECIALLY ALONG THIS COLD FRONT. AND AFTER THE COLD FRONT PUSHES OVER GOING INTO TOMORROW MORNING, THIS IS WHENEVER WE CAN EXPECT THE STRONGEST GUSTS TO PUSH IN AROUND AND A LITTLE AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE INITIAL 60 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS OR GREATER WILL BE PUSHING IN AND WILL STICK WITH THOSE FOR THE REST OF FRIDAY EARLY MORNING, LATE MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON. THAT’S WHEN WE’LL SEE THEM MORE MANAGEABLE. AROUND 20 TO 30 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS. SO GOING DOWN TO BREEZY INTO OUR FRIDAY AFTERNOON EVENING AND THEN OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY WILL STICK WITH THOSE BREEZY CONDITIONS AS WELL. BUT ANOTHER THING TO NOTE FOR THE WEEKEND. SATURDAY A CHANCE FOR SNOWFALL FOR THE MORNING, MAINLY FOR THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE STATE. IT’S GOING TO BE LIGHT SNOW. NOT GOING TO BE STICKING AROUND TOO LONG. IT’S THE NEXT SYSTEM THAT MOVES IN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE TO COLORADO. LOW PUSHES FROM THE SOUTHWEST TOWARDS CHICAGO, AS THEY TYPICALLY DO. AND WHAT THAT’S GOING TO DO FOR US, IT’S GOING TO BRING STRONG WINDS. THAT’S PRETTY MUCH SET IN THE FORECAST WITH THESE STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS DO, BUT ALSO WRAPPING AROUND SOME MOISTURE. AND THAT’S GOING TO REALLY LAY DOWN A CHANCE FOR SNOWFALL FOR US MORE OF AN IMPACT RIGHT NOW FOR MINNESOTA GOING TO WISCONSIN. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS EXPECTED. NOT A COMPLETELY RULED OUT FOR US AS FAR AS THE SNOW IMPACT AND TRAVEL CONCERNS AS WE GO INTO SUNDAY. BUT THERE’S STILL SOME TIME FOR THIS TO ADJUST. Iowa weather: Powerful winds move in Today through Friday morning
Stronger winds will be moving in for today and Friday. A strong clipper system will push out of Canada and head toward the Great Lakes. This will sweep a cold front over Iowa which will bring these stronger winds. This will bring some brief scattered showers over parts of Iowa this evening along with powerful gusts capable of blowing property around and impacting large profile vehicles. The winds will be ramping up through the morning. The afternoon will have gusts around 40 to 50 mph. Winds will be mainly from the south, so eastbound and westbound travel will have a strong cross wind. Strong winds will continue overnight into Friday morning. The winds overnight are expected to be stronger as cold air behind the front will be able to tap into the strength of the lower level winds more efficiently. The timeframe will be from around midnight through mid/late Friday morning. A High Wind Warning has been issued for areas along and north of I-80 during this time. This warning could stretch into areas south of I-80 as well towards hwy 34. Damaging winds will be expected that could lead to downed trees and power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for larger vehicles. This will be the better timeframe to see gusts around 50mph or greater. The winds will be from the west northwest, so it will generate a strong cross winds for all north and south bound travel.
