Patna: Bihar legislative assembly Speaker Prem Kumar inaugurated the two-day Magahi Mahotsav 2.0 at Bapu Tower on Saturday, describing the event as a cultural movement essential for preserving regional identity.Kumar said the festival was not merely a celebration but a “vibrant confluence of language, culture, traditions and folk life” that must be integrated into the education system and daily life to remain relevant for future generations. Emphasising Magahi’s importance, he said the language holds a significant place among Bihar’s major languages and carries a rich legacy that needs protection.Calling for collective efforts, Kumar stressed the need to create space for Magahi in education, literature and everyday communication, while also increasing awareness among the youth to ensure its continuity.Building construction department secretary Kumar Ravi addressed the gathering entirely in Magahi, asserting that the language’s survival depends on its use at home. “Magahi will prosper only when it is spoken in households,” he said.Academic sessions held during the day focused on strengthening the language, with scholars noting that Magahi studies have employment potential.
