Tamil Nadu polls 2026: My wish is to become an MLA, lend voice to the marginalised, says VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan | Chennai News

CHENNAI: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday justified his decision to contest in the Assembly election despite being an MP, stating that his wish was to return to state politics. “The main objective of contesting in the election is to raise my voice for marginalised people more efficiently in the state assembly. I want to become an MLA, nothing more,” Thirumavalavan told reporters after participating in the tea party hosted by the chief minister. He is the MP for Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency.Asked about forcing a bypoll for Chidambaram constituency due to his decision to contest the assembly election, Thirumavalavan said he was not the only MP to contest. He said AIADMK was fielding its Rajya Sabha MP C Ve Shanmugam and Congress was fielding its Puducherry CM candidate V Vaithilingam.“We expect that our alliance led by DMK to win. We believe VCK will make a huge contribution to the alliance,’’ the VCK chief said. Thirumavalavan added that he would ensure that the alliance stays intact. “This time BJP is contesting in more seats in Tamil Nadu, and there is a possibility of their vote share increasing. So we should also stay strong in the state,” Thirumavalavan said.
