Mithun Chakraborty defends ‘Dhurandhar 2’ amid criticism of being a propaganda film: ‘The Bengal Files wasn’t allowed to release…’ | Hindi Movie News

‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, directed by Aditya Dhar, has turned into a box office juggernaut, drawing massive crowds and sparking widespread discussion nationwide. It has been the talk of the town. However, despite its phenomenal commercial run, Dhurandhar 2 has also faced criticism from a section of viewers, with some branding it a “propaganda” film. While several public figures have previously weighed in on the debate, veteran actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty has now shared his perspective.Chakraborty reflected on his unreleased 2025 project ‘The Bengal Files’, pointing out the contrast in how the two films have been treated. He argued that if his film could be blocked from release, then similar objections should have applied to ‘Dhurandhar 2’ as well. He also said that the “propaganda” accusations only surfaced after the film had already been released. He told IANS, “The Bengal Files ko release hone nahi diya, isse badi kya baat karenge? Ab Dhurandhar ko bhi propaganda kehte, toh Dhurandhar ko bhi rok lete na? Dhurandhar release hui, aur ab aap kehte ho ki propaganda hai. Lekin The Bengal Files ka release tak nahi hone diya. Uske against mein jaake, film ko release tak hone nahi diya Bengal mein. Isse badi dukh ki baat kya ho sakti hai?”He further explained that The Bengal Files is based on the Noakhali riots, which occurred before India’s Independence, yet it still could not secure a release. Defending Aditya Dhar’s film, Mithun added, “Toh dadagiri, jo bolna hai boliye, lekin Dhurandhar ne saare records tod diye. Itne logon ne picture dekhi hogi tab na. Har sampraday ke logon ne dekhi hai, tareef ki hai, aur do-teen baar dekhne ke baad hi picture ka yeh business hota hai.Apart from Ranveer Singh, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ features a strong ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Danish Pandor, and Gaurav Gera in key roles.
