Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old woman, Heena alias Sonia, was arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Vijendra (32), by smothering him to death at their home in Khoda Colony.According to police, the couple was drinking together on Tuesday night when a fight broke out over Vijendra’s drinking habits and the future of their children. The argument soon turned deadly, with Sonia using a pillow to smother him to death.The couple had a love marriage and have two sons, Deepak (9) and Dipanshu (6).Vijendra’s elder brother, Babloo Kumar, who filed the complaint at Khoda police station, said that the couple had frequent quarrels and disputes throughout their 11-year marriage, which often escalated into formal complaints.Vijendra worked as a driver and labourer, but did not go to work daily and allegedly spent the day drinking. He would often ask Sonia for money for alcohol, which frequently led to fights between them.He said that on Tuesday night, he, along with his wife and mother, went out to attend a kirtan in the neighbourhood. “When we returned at 8pm, Deepak came and told us that Sonia had killed Vijendra during a fight. We immediately rushed into his room and found him lying unconscious,” he said.He added that they took Vijendra to a nearby hospital, from where he was sent to Lal Bahadur Shashri Hospital, where he was declared dead.Cops were informed, and an FIR was registered against Sonia under Section 103 (1) (punishment for murder) of BNS.Abhishek Srivastava, ACP of Indirapuram, said autopsy reports revealed that Vijendra was killed by smothering, following which Sonia was arrested. Further investigation is underway.
