At Barak rally, Sachin Pilot targets BJP over infiltration, border security | Guwahati News

Silchar: Stepping up Congress campaign ahead of the April 9 Assam assembly elections, senior leader Sachin Pilot on Friday launched a sharp attack on BJP, questioning its handling of border security and alleging failure to address key public concerns despite being in power both at the Centre and in the state.Addressing a rally at Boalipar market in Hailakandi district’s Algapur–Katlicherra constituency, AICC general secretary Pilot campaigned for Congress candidate Zubair Anam Mazumdar, drawing a sizeable crowd as political activity intensifies in Barak Valley.Taking aim at the issue of illegal infiltration, Pilot asked how such incidents continue if borders are under govt control. “If the borders are under their control, how is infiltration still taking place?” he said, eliciting a strong response from the gathering.Framing the upcoming election as a fight for “rights and dignity” rather than a routine contest, the former Union minister urged voters to back Mazumdar, describing him as an honest and grassroots-oriented leader. He also called on party workers to intensify outreach efforts, engage directly with households, and focus on local issues. As campaigning gathers pace, the contest in Algapur-Katlicherra is shaping into a broader ideological battle, with Congress positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling BJP. The outcome, Pilot said, would ultimately be decided by voters at the ballot box.
