But for Chicago Cubs pitcher Cade Horton, it was the last one he threw on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians.

After the pitch, Cubs personnel came out to check on Horton.

Soon after, he walked off the field, his day done.

What happened to Cade Horton?

Cade Horton exited Friday’s game after injury.

“Cade Horton was throwing 95-96 in the first inning, but then after a 93.8 MPH fastball in the 2nd he was removed from the game,” MLB analyst Mike Petriello wrote on X. “That’s something to watch carefully.”

It’s a terrible development for the Cubs, and they’ll all cross their fingers that it’s not too bad.

The 24-year old is a former No. 7 overall pick out of Oklahoma.

In his first start of the year, Horton went 6.1 innings, allowed two runs, struck out four and got a win.

This was nothing like that. It’s the first game of a road trip for the Cubs, and now they had to go to the bullpen immediately.

Why is Colin Rea pitching, not Cade Horton?

The Cubs needed to go to the guy in their bullpen who could possibly give them the most length.

Rea, mostly a starter in his MLB career, was that guy.

He came on in the second, and they’ll hope he can hold down the fort after the Horton injury.
