Sonya Curry returns to social media, sharing a biblical message on Instagram. “Happy Easter! ‘Don’t be alarmed,’ the angel said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. HE IS RISEN! HE IS NOT HERE. See the place where they laid Him.’ Mark 16:6,” Sonya wrote in the caption of a post where the same text appeared.Sonya built her life around teaching and guiding young people, long before her sons became NBA stars. At 59, her work as an educator shaped not just classrooms, but her own family. Seth Curry once spoke about that influence, saying, “My mom is an educator so [giving back] was a part of her job.” He added, “It was staying late after school, mentoring kids, talking to parents, giving them encouragement… She had to be selfless and sacrifice a lot of time.” He also pointed to their father’s example, noting, “My dad, every chance he got, he was doing things in the community… He always showed up in a meaningful way.”Stephen Curry also credits his mother for other parts of his game. “A lot of people say whatever defensive abilities I have, I get from her,” Steph told “SF Gate” in 2013. “She’s a strong woman.” He also reflected on her role at home, saying, “Growing up in an NBA household, with my dad being on the road a lot, she did a great job with me and my siblings. She deserves a lot of credit for how we turned out.”

Sonya Curry’s tribute to her mother Candy Wyms Adams

Adams passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 76, after being hospitalized. The family has not shared further details about her condition or the cause of her death. In the days leading up to her passing, Sonya had already begun reflecting on the importance of time and connection. Through her “LOVE FIERCELY” message, she urged people to be more present with those who matter most. “I challenge you to LOVE FIERCELY💕 Reach out to someone you care about and carve out intentional time just for them. Share something you both enjoy. Whether it’s an activity, a deep conversation, or simply sitting in silence together. Be present. Let your love be seen, heard, and felt,” she wrote.
