Israel bombs Sharif University of Technology in Iran, triggers gas outage; video shows aftermath

US-Israel airstrikes struck Tehran early Monday, hitting the Sharif University of Technology and causing gas outages in parts of the capital, Iranian state media reported. The attack damaged buildings at the university and a nearby natural gas distribution site, disrupting supply in surrounding neighbourhoods. The strike “hit the Sharif University gas station and we are facing a temporary gas outage in the Sharif neighborhood,” state broadcaster IRIB quoted the head of Tehran’s District 9 neighbourhood as saying.Iranian media reported multiple explosions through the night, with the sound of low-flying fighter jets heard intermittently for hours. It remains unclear what specific facilities within the university were targeted. The campus is currently without students as the ongoing war has shifted education across the country to online classes.Sharif University of Technology has been sanctioned by several countries over the years for its alleged links to military work, particularly Iran’s ballistic missile programme overseen by the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Iranian security forces, including the Guard, have reportedly been using secondary locations as operational points amid repeated strikes on their bases. In a separate incident, the state-run IRAN newspaper reported that an airstrike in a residential area of Qom killed at least five people. The target of that strike was not immediately clear. Qom, a major Shiite seminary city, lies south of Tehran.Iran has not released updated overall casualty figures from the conflict in recent days, nor has it disclosed details of its material losses.
