Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays fans have had Monday’s date circled since November.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, we’ll get a rematch of the 2025 World Series when the Boys in Blue travel to the Canada.
Monday will be the first time the teams face off since Miguel Rojas’ game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 and Will Smith’s game-winning homer in the 11th.
Dodgers Stars Expect Hostile Reception in Toronto
Speaking with Sonja Chen and Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, players for both squads are expecting more than a typical regular-season atmosphere.
“It’s not like playing in front of our fans, it’s playing in front of the whole city that was hopeful to win a World Series,” Rojas said. “I’m expecting, for the first time in my life, to get booed when I play there.”
Dodgers’ starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski is also expecting a less-than-warm welcome after a heated confrontation with Andrés Giménez during Game 7.
“It’s gonna be great,” Wrobleski told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson. “They’re gonna boo me and it’s gonna be really awesome. That’s what makes sports great, I think. If you pull for a team and I were a Toronto fan, I probably wouldn’t like me either, so I completely understand. It’s what’s cool about sports, the passion that the fans have. I think it’s what makes sports great, the passion the fans have for the teams. That’s what makes you want to go out every day and perform. I’m super excited. It’s a great place to play. They really love baseball over there.”
What Are the Blue Jays Expecting?
Some Jays have tried to downplay the importance of this series.
“It’s just another series that we really have to win, honestly,” said Ernie Clement.
“That’s all it is. Last year is last year and it doesn’t have any merit on this year,” added George Springer.
Manager John Schneider also rejected World Series comparisons.
“I was joking with the guys that it’s not a three-game rematch of the World Series, it’s just three games you’ve got to cover and try to win,” he said.
