Arunava Sen of the All India Trinamool Congress defeats Pramanshu Rana of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bagnan, winning by a margin of 11,316 votes after all 20 rounds of counting.Bagnan in Howrah district has been represented by Arunava Sen (Raja) of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 106,042 votes (53per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Anupam Mallik’s 75,922 votes (38per cent), by a margin of 30,120 votes. Key issues include rural infrastructure gaps—roads, drainage and bridges—across Bagnan‑I and Bagnan‑II blocks, alongside irrigation and better market access for paddy, vegetable and betel leaf cultivators. Demand for expanded government health and education facilities, drinking water security, and employment opportunities beyond informal labour in peri‑urban areas near Uluberia and Howrah are also prominent local concerns. Arunava Sen has held the seat for TMC since 2011, building on earlier Congress and CPI(M) dominance (Akkel Ali Khan won in 2006), turning Bagnan into a reliable Trinamool pocket despite BJP’s growing challenge. The constituency falls under the Uluberia Lok Sabha seat, retained by TMC’s Sajda Ahmed in 2024 with a margin of 2,18,673 votes, reinforcing party alignment from Assembly to Parliament.
