Bill Murray sits with former UConn star at Elite Eight game vs. Duke

Date:

Popular American actor Bill Murray has been a consistent presence on UConn men’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament run, attending his fourth-consecutive game Sunday as the Huskies face Duke in the Elite Eight.

Before the game, Murray was seen chatting with former UConn great Cam Spencer, who played a starring role in the Huskies’ jaunt to the 2024 national championship, his lone season with the program. Spencer is currently enjoying a breakout sophomore season in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, but Sunday’s matchup in Washington, D.C., brings the shooting guard back close to home, as he was raised about an hour west in Davidsonville, Md.

Murray has been a frequent presence at UConn men’s basketball games over the past half-decade after his son, Luke Murray, was hired as an assistant coach on Dan Hurley’s staff. Luke Murray has been tasked as the Huskies’ “offensive coordinator” during this stretch, masterminding the No. 3 most efficient offense in college basketball during that period.

The Murray family’s presence near the UConn bench should continue if the Huskies reach the Final Four, even after Luke Murray was hired as the next Boston College head coach Thursday afternoon. Hurley confirmed that the assistant coach will remain with the team through the end of the season Friday.
