‘Cash rain’ in Mohali society during search | Chandigarh News

Mohali: Morning walkers at a residential society in Mohali nearly stepped on bundles of currency notes on Thursday and looked up to find more fluttering down on Thursday. The cash was allegedly thrown from a ninth-floor house where an Enforcement Directorate search was on as part of a major operation against a section of influential builders. The central agency searched 12 locations in Chandigarh and Mohali under tight security, sending ripples through the real estate sector of Punjab and Chandigarh. The alleged ‘money rain’ happened when ED was searching the flat of businessman Nitin Gohil in a housing society at Kharar, Mohali. It’s alleged that as soon as ED officials entered the building, someone threw two bags filled with Rs 500 currency notes off the balcony.Witnesses reported seeing bundles of currency falling from the building. A video purportedly shows a bag filled with cash lying on the ground and bundles of Rs 500 notes scattered nearby. Sources said one person is believed to have escaped with a bag of cash in his car. ED seized another bag containing around Rs 21 lakh in cashSources said the ED action is linked to alleged large-scale financial fraud involving the acquisition of ‘change of land use’ (CLU) licences from Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). ED officers are examining documents and financial records to look for suspected illegal transactions connected to the case.
