Flight diverted to Boston because of unruly passenger, officials say

Date:

An unruly passenger caused an international flight from Germany to Chicago to be diverted to Boston on Monday, police said.

U.S. Customs officials took the passenger into custody at Logan International Airport after they were dispatched by Massport at 9:34 a.m., Massachusetts State Police said.

The passenger, who was not publicly identified, declined medical attention at the gate after being removed from the United Airlines flight.

The passenger was later transported to Mass General Hospital, police said.

State Police Trooper Leah O’Connell said the individual had been restrained but was cooperative when troopers boarded the plane.

O’Connell did not provide more details about the passenger’s conduct but said an investigation is underway.

State Police will issue the passenger a summons to court at a later date, the agency said.

In a statement, United Airlines said the plane landed safely in Boston to address a disruptive passenger and that the flight was expected to depart for Chicago on Monday afternoon. The airline didn’t provide more details of the disruption.

Flight 945 travels from Frankfurt, Germany, to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
