Microsoft’s AI division (MAI) has released an analysis of how people used its AI chatbot, Copilot, in 2025. The team revealed its top 5 findings days after other tech giants like YouTube, Instagram and Spotify, released a recap of users’ activities in the past year. Microsoft’s report says that it analysed 37.5 million anonymized conversations which showed that Copilot is functioning as a “trusted advisor,” with people asking the chatbot about health to late-night philosophical debates related to religion and philosophy.

Five key things people asked Copilot in 2025

1. The data suggests users consistently rely on Copilot for tracking wellness, searching for health tips and managing daily routines.2. Programming and gamingHighlighting data from August, the usage report showed an overlap between two distinct interests: programming and gaming. Users were equally likely to engage in coding projects as they were to explore games. However, this engagement was split across the calendar: users tended to code during the week and play games during the weekends.3. February witnessed Valentine’s Day spikeCopilot AI usage on Valentine’s Day topics increased during February as the month witnessed a significant spike in activity because users relied on Copilot for help navigating a major calendar event. The queries were concentrated around preparing for Valentine’s Day and seeking support regarding relationships.4.
