COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city and rural police have formed special teams to nab a gang that burgled three houses in the city and on the outskirts. One of the burglaries happened in the house of J Ranganathan, 55, of PLS Nagar, who works in a private firm in Perumanallur. Ranganathan and wife, who is a private school teacher, went for work on Tuesday after locking their house. Later, Ranganathan’s brother-in-law, Nagarajan, called him over the phone and informed him that the front door of his house was open. He rushed home and found gold jewellery, including diamond-studded earrings weighing about 17 grams, and a wristwatch had been stolen. He lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police on Wednesday, who registered a case and began investigations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the same gang had stolen 10 sovereigns of gold from a house in Muthalipalayam near Sulur and 7.25 sovereigns of gold from Kaikolapalayam near Kovilpalayam on the same day, which fell under rural police limits. Further inquiries revealed that the gang had burgled a couple of houses in Perundurai in Erode district.
