Date:

Kolkata: Kolkata-born NRI industrialist Prasoon Mukherjee has been chosen to lead Singapore Enterprise Centre (SEC) India, which has been set up by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) to boost trade, investment and industrial relations between India and Singapore. Mukherjee currently leads Universal Success Enterprises (USEL).SBF represents 32,000 companies looking for business expansion in Kolkata and other parts of the country. SEC India, supported by Enterprise Singapore, a govt agency in the country, recently opened its first office in Bengaluru.“The pan-India operations of SEC India are overseen from the Bengaluru office. We are planning to set up more offices in other parts of the country, including Kolkata, in future,” said Mukherjee, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently and requested the Centre’s help to foster business between the two countries. With the help of the federation, Singapore-based companies will gain access to timely market intelligence, regulatory guidance and business facilitation in the Indian market.Mukherjee said, “Since I am a Bengali, my objective will be to put Bengal on Singaporean investors’ map for investment. At the same time, companies from the state can partner with those based in Singapore.”“Areas in which such partnerships are possible include advanced manufacturing, precision engineering, semiconductor electronics, consumer products, services, fintech and innovation systems,” he added.SBF is seeking to strengthen collaboration with relevant govt bodies and agencies to align its efforts with national and state-level initiatives, according to Mukherjee. “By working together, business communities of India and Singapore can create a more seamless and supportive environment for bilateral investment and projects,” he added.“The PM has encouraged the federation to bring Singapore companies for the country’s trade and commerce,” he said further.Mukherjee’s USEL is currently in the process of setting up logistics parks in Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh as well as a data centre in Bengal and a 500 MW solar park in Gujarat, aside from several other ongoing projects.
