The Michigan basketball team’s Final Four sendoff in Ann Arbor on Wednesday was briefly delayed due to a medical issue.
Shortly after the team boarded the bus to travel to Indianapolis, point guard Elliot Cadeau was removed and transported on a gurney to a nearby ambulance after he suffered an apparent allergic reaction.
“Before the team departed the Player Development Center, Elliot alerted the medical staff that he may have had an allergic reaction to something that he ate,” a program spokesperson said in a statement. “The doctors evaluated Elliot and he is fine.
“Out of an abundance of caution, he is receiving medical supervision and will be traveling to Indianapolis later today.”
Cadeau has started all 38 games this season for the No. 1 seed Wolverines (35-3), who have reached the national semifinals for the first time since 2018.
Cadeau has upped his level of play in the NCAA Tournament, averaging 10.5 points and 8.3 assists in 32.8 minutes per game while shooting 40% from 3-point range (8-for-20) in Michigan’s four March Madness wins.
He was named to the Midwest All-Region team, along with forward Yaxel Lendeborg and guard Roddy Gayle Jr., after posting 17 points and seven assists in a 90-77 win over Alabama in the Sweet 16 and eight points and 10 assists in a 95-62 win over Tennessee in the Elite Eight.
The Wolverines will practice Thursday and Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium before facing No. 1 seed Arizona in the Final Four at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.
