Reading Rainbow theme song singer Tina Fabrique surprised The View audience on a commercial break.
Fabrique was in the audience watching Rainbow host LeVar Burton reunite with his Star Trek costar Whoopi Goldberg.
The singer performed an impromptu rendition of the children’s show’s iconic theme song.
There’s a pot of glistening vocal gold at the end of Reading Rainbow, and it’s all thanks to theme song singer Tina Fabrique.
The View just served up a surprise reunion that’s sure to bring a tear to the millennial eye, as original theme song performer Fabrique serenaded the talk show’s studio audience with an impromptu rendition of the iconic tune during former Rainbow host LeVar Burton‘s recent appearance on the daytime program.
In a clip shared Thursday to The View‘s Instagram (below), Fabrique sings the children’s show’s legendary theme song — which debuted alongside the PBS show in 1983 — from the audience risers during a commercial break between segments of Burton’s interview with the cohosts.
“Butterfly in the sky, I can go twice as high. Take a look, it’s in a book, a reading rainbow,” Fabrique sings on a microphone, as the audience applauds.
She continues, “I can go anywhere. Ways to grow and things to know, a reading rainbow. I can do anything. Take a look, it’s in a book, a reading rainbow.”
In a social media post of his own, Burton earlier this week celebrated his appearance by calling moderator and his Star Trek costar Whoopi Goldberg his “longtime friend,” with whom he sat for a discussion at the Hot Topics table.
During the conversation, cohost Sara Haines brought up Burton’s work on Reading Rainbow and his appearance at Howard University’s May 2025 commencement ceremony, where graduates were filmed as they sang the Reading Rainbow theme song to Burton while he spoke.
Burton got emotional over the moment, telling Haines, “It’s extraordinary to think that, throughout the course of my career, I’ve been bale to portray the Black experience in America from our enslavement, to the stars,” he said, referencing his performance in the 1977 miniseries Roots, and praising Reading Rainbow for occupying an educational space “in the middle of that continuum” of projects.
Outside of Reading Rainbow and Roots, Burton also starred alongside Goldberg in the aforementioned Star Trek franchise, with a lead role on the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran from 1987-1994. Goldberg had a recurring role as Guinan, a hostess aboard the Enterprise-D ship.

The View has long hosted segments between Goldberg and her various Star Trek colleagues, including Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (William Riker), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), and Michael Dorn (Worf), who joined the talk show for a 2023 reunion with the Oscar-winning actress.
