Project oversight: AAI to roll out real-time project tracking; new online system to use CCTV, drone feeds

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is set to launch an online monitoring system that will track airport development projects in real time, as the state-owned operator steps up oversight of ongoing capital works, PTI reported citing a senior official .The platform, which has been under development for around a year, will allow round-the-clock review of progress to curb delays. It will draw on CCTV footage, drone visuals and other video inputs to assess on-ground execution, the official told PTI.AAI is currently executing nearly 25 projects across airports, including upgradation work, with individual project costs ranging between Rs 200 crore and Rs 500 crore.According to the civil aviation ministry’s annual report, AAI is projected to have incurred more than Rs 6,400 crore in capital expenditure between January 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.The authority manages 137 airports, including 24 international, 10 customs, 80 domestic and 23 civil enclaves.AAI and PPP airport operators together spent more than Rs 96,000 crore on airport development, upgradation and modernisation between 2019-20 and 2024-25, the ministry told Lok Sabha in a written reply in August. There are more than 160 airports in the country.
