Bettiah: Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan on Saturday visited the historic Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram, a key site associated with the Champaran Satyagraha.On arrival, he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and toured the ashram premises, including the main cottage housing rare artefacts and photographs from the Satyagraha period.During the visit, he inspected museum galleries showcasing Gandhi’s work in Bihar, offered prayers at the prayer hall and paid homage to Kasturba Gandhi for her role in social reforms at the ashram. He later recorded his remarks in the visitor’s book, describing the site as an important symbol of India’s freedom struggle.Bihar governor Syed Ata Hasnain and Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh accompanied the VP. West Champaran district magistrate Taran Jot Singh presented mementos to the dignitaries on behalf of the district administration.Established in 1917, the Bhitiharwa Ashram remains a significant heritage site linked to Gandhi’s early experiments with non-violent resistance in India.
