When we dropped by the set of Root – Running Out of Time , the team were busy filming a fight sequence between Gautham Ram Karthik and Aparshakti Khurana in a ballroom setting. Root ’s leading man, Gautham Ram Karthik, tells us, “ Root is a time-based sci-fi thriller. So, you have to make what’s happening in the film believable, though it’s unbelievable. Root is a proper action thriller. We are shooting an important fight sequence in a ballroom today. Gautham’s character has to open many mysterious doors while investigating a series of murders. He has to pull a lot of strings that are invisible while maintaining a work-life balance between being a husband and a cop. Aparshakti is a beast in acting, and the character (Anandhan) needed an actor like him. Both Gautham and him are sweethearts and big assets to the film.I play a CB- CID officer: Gautham Ram Karthik
My character, Chezhiyan is a CB-CID investigative officer. He is slightly arrogant but in command at the film’s start. For me, each character that I play has been different in its own way. In this film, it’s about how my character will balance the investigation and his personal time. I played an undercover cop in Pathu Thala . This role is that of a regular cop who is trying to solve a case and has a much wider range.
I’ve been an editor cum assistant director on set: John AbrahamI was part of the film as an editor ever since Sooriyaprathap came up with the idea. There are so many genres in this film, and the sci-fi bit is sort of futuristic. So, it’s a bit challenging to bring everything together. The music will be unique. The genre of the film is diverse, and so will the music. There will be a classical touch, but also a Western and hip-hop one. It’ll be a mixture of everything.Today, we are filming a complicated fight sequence. We are trying to give the film a live treatment and make it as naturalistic as possible, especially Aparshakti’s sequences. We haven’t lit up the frames too much and have tried to give the film a special look and feel with its lensing.– Arjun Raja, cinematographer
